Dedicated to transforming the health and well-being of low-income and immigrant residents  through compassionate care, self-sufficiency and community participation

La Maestra Community Health Centers has grown into an award-winning health organization that serves on average 200 low-income residents a day and has treated an estimated 65,000 patients since 1990. (In 2005, La Maestra reported 85,000 visits from its patients).  As a member of Southern California's Council of Community Clinics, it is the only health center of its kind in the three communities its serves - City Heights, El Cajon and National City. Low-income and immigrant residents rely heavily on La Maestra to be the "safety net" for their health and non-medical needs.  

 Through its Circle of Care model, La Maestra provides a values-based care approach for providing programs and services. This model places the highest priority on compassionate care and developing self-sufficiency.  La Maestra (Spanish for "the teacher") provides a unique level of care where residents find not only a "medical home" but a "family" of staff and volunteers that care about their entire health and well-being.
