La Maestra’s new-state-of-the-art, three-story, 36,440 square foot “green” health center opened in July 2010 on Fairmount Avenue, in the heart of City Heights in Central San Diego. Patient volume is expected to double within two year in this new facility, which is designed for efficient patient flow. In addition to integrating the range of already provided services into a single medical home, we are expanding access to specialty services which are not available in the areas we serve. T
he building has been designed and built to achieve Gold level LEED certification through the United States Green Building Council, with improved performance in energy savings, water use efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor air quality and use of sustainable and recycled materials.
The building’s design also adds cost savings by improving patient flow and increasing staff productivity and efficiency.
Walk-In Clinic. The new City Heights location features a walk-in clinic which provides patients with non-emergency, urgent care services.

Dental Clinics. Less than a block from the main facility, La Maestra owns and operates two dental clinics with nine operatories that serve many of the residents in City Heights. There are no other community clinics offering oral health services in City Heights and both clinics have long waiting lists. Five additional operatories in the new facility will expand access to oral health services.
School-Based Clinics. La Maestra operates an on-campus, part-time medical and dental clinic at Hoover High School, an inner-city high school in City Heights. In fall of 2010, La Maestra began providing medical services at Central Elementary School in the Central region of San Diego and is set to operate in another elementary school and a middle school by the beginning of 2011. Oral health screenings are also held at these schools.

CITY HEIGHTS INITIATIVE

The City Heights Initiative is a partnership between Price Charities and both public and nonprofit agencies like La Maestra Community Health Centers to improve the quality of life in San Diego's City Heights community. The Initiative is committed to employing holistic redevelopment strategies in order to address the multiple factors contributing to urban poverty. In addition, the Initiative is committed to making the redevelopment effort community-driven and improving City Heights for its current residents.
La Maestra Community Health Center is working closely with the 43rd Avenue Redevelopment Partners, a group formed to oversee the Initiative and has an employee on it's Board of Directors. La Maestra understands that by joining forces with the community is the most important way to ensure lasting change for its residents.
