It is estimated that in 2009 over 20,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the state of California.
La Maestra Family Health Centers is doing its part to insure that every woman in this state has access to breast health services by partnering with the Cancer Detection Program: Every Woman Counts.
Studies have demonstrated that early detection may increase options for treatment and survival, and the American Cancer Society recommends clinical breast exams for women in their 20's and 30's every 3 years and every year for women 40 and older. A mammogram is recommended every year for women 40 years and older.
Program Description: Expanding Breast Health Services
Provides free breast and cervical screening for low-income women residing in California, 40 years or older, that have no insurance or are under-insured. The program utilizes the Promotora/Community Health Worker model to plan and organize screening events held at community-based, faith-based and educational institutions to reach out to women that might not otherwise be screened.
In addition, La Maestra has a mammography screening one day a month at each of the four clinics:
El Cajon Clinic, 165 S. First Street, El Cajon, 92020 - 2nd Wednesday of every month
City Heights Clinic, 4060 Fairmount Ave. San Diego, 92105 3rd Wednesday of every month
Lemon Grove Clinic, 7967 Broadway Ave. Lemon Grove, 91945 3rd Tuesday of every month
National City Clinic, 101 N. Highland "A", National City, CA 91905 - 1st Friday of every month
Grossmont Imaging Center, 8881 Fletcher Parkway, La Mesa, CA 91942 - 3rd Saturday of every month
